An intuitive abstract oil painting on canvas created from the mood of 2020 by Laurie Maves ART in her Sarasota, FL, based studio. Created in January and February of 2020, just prior the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, this painting was an experiment in working with acrylic combined with oil media. I always said I would save the practice of "oil painting," for when I retired from acrylic painting. The COVID pandemic forced a temporary closure of my teaching studio, so I took the opportunity to try a new media. I
It almost seemed that these paintings were predicting a need for an increase in the generation of prayers, like I could almost feel the wave of communities crying for help from a pandemic that was out of control in China and had rapidly spread to my husband's (and my) beloved country of Italy. I believed that if I painted about sending prayers up into the atmosphere, similarly as Clyfford Still had done back in the late 1940's and 1950's with his large scale abstract exp...
